Adorable Tile in the Kitchen

Placing tile in a kitchen is a great thing to do. It can be used in so many different applications. We use it on the floor, counter top, walls, back splash and behind the stove. The hard part is deciding what size is the right size for the space and what color do I use.

Flooring tiles are great when you use the 12x12 or 16 x 16. This leave less space for the grout. When the grout looks clean the floor looks like new. Do not select a shiny tile, when it gets wet, it is very slippery. No one wants to fall down. Select a tile that has a little texture. The color on the floors depend on the style of the home, the traffic in the kitchen and how much sun light the room gets. You should select a light colored tile if the kitchen is dark or not much light. Then the light from your fixtures will reflect off the tile and make the room feel lighter. If this room gets a lot of high traffic, select a medium colored tile. It will not show as much dirt as a light or dark tile.

Tiling the counter top is a great look. If the kitchen and space is large selecting a 12x12 tile works great. If the kitchen is a bit smaller, then select a 6x6 or 4x4. Then the design that the tile is laid in will be noticed without it looking out of place. The color on the counter will determine the style of the kitchen. This is a place that the sky is the limit. What ever you like can work in this space.

Placing tile on the backsplash of the counter can be creative. You can use the same tiles that are on the counter top or you can select a tile that blends with the design in a different size. This is the place you can add the metal design or the glass tiles. You can add a decorative molding piece to dress up the kitchen. All those pieces that you loved, but could not place on the counter because they were not flat. Have fun and be creative.
Placing tiles behind the stove is a great place to put a tile scenery or the small 1x1 tile sheets. You can add even more on this space. There are tiles that almost tell a story for this space. You can also get a set of tiles that will show a large picture. Look at the theme of this kitchen and expand it with this small space.
