Most of the packaging that camping tents come in just state the material, dimensions, and the number of people the item will sleep. They may not have any information about their specifics and when they would be best used. Below are the most common types of tents available.

Beautiful Types Of Pond Filters

It's really nice to have the nature close to your home. It creates a very relaxing ambiance. Unfortunately, if your pond is dirty and produces an unpleasant odor, I think it can also be stressful too. So to avoid turning your pond into a stress pit, you should make sure that you know a lot about pond care and maintenance.

One of the most crucial parts in any garden pond is the pond water filter. There are many types of pond filters. They differ in configurations, price and their complexity. Choosing a pond filter depends on what kind of pond do you have.

Basket filter is the most basic kind of a pond filter. You can just put these filters at the surface of the pond water or underwater. It actually depends on the design of the basket filter that you have. The mechanics of the function of this type of filter works by forcing the water through a net which captures larger debris and then returning the water back into the pond again. This type of filter is a basic necessity for any kind of pond. There are numerous of basket filters available in the market now. From those which can filter big sizes of debris to those which can filter smaller sizes of debris. You just have to remember that the basket should be cleaned diligently to avoid clogging. You can check the instructions on how many times you should clean your basket.

Another type of pond filter is known as UV filter. This type of filter can be considered as one of the advanced types of pond filters available in the market. It just proves us that sunlight can really do a lot of wonders. As the name suggest, this filter uses UV radiation in sunlight to exterminate algae and microorganisms effectively. UV filters can emit strong UV rays that can eliminate the unwanted microorganisms and algae in our pond. Even if they are emitting rays that are not visible to our naked eyes, these type of filters need to be cleaned too. As much as possible, remove the slime or grime on the UV bulb housing so you can maximize the amount of UV light that they can emit in the water. The radiated light travels to the pump, and the downside part of this, these pumps can only take small amount of water at a time. It may take a while before they can evenly distribute the UV light exposed water all throughout the pond.

Another popular kind of filter is the bacterial garden pond filter. These kinds of filter use living organisms to cleanse and purify the water. If you will use this kind of filter, you should fill or prime your pump with bacteria. Re-priming are needed frequently during the first few weeks of use, depending on the manufacturer's instructions. Bacterial filters are effective against algae and most of the pond-scum type of pollutants. The thing about this type of filter is that it takes quite a long time before you can see the effects. So it's recommended to install this kind of pond filter before any manifestation of algae problems show up. It's more of like prevention, than a cure.

Adorable Building a deck for a hot tub

A hot tub can be a rewarding addition to any home. When installing a deck mounted hot tub it is very important your deck is built to support its weight. A hot tub may weigh up to 1,000 lbs when empty and can weigh as much as 2 tons when filled with water. It is very important to account for this additional weight when building a deck. A deck professional can advise you on the proper methods for supporting your new hot tub.

Many people go wrong while deck building because supporting large loads is much more difficult than it seems to be. Not just the weight of the hot tub, but also the dimensions and electrical wiring required for the hot tub should be kept in mind by the deck builder at the time of deck planning and construction. Once, you have measured for your hot tub's dimensional requirements, accounted for weight and identified a power source, you are ready to start the construction planning.

The next step is to decide on the extra support required for your hot tub. Make sure to add at least 3 feet in diameter to your deck i.e. if your hot tub is 9 feet in diameter then your deck should be at least 12 feet in diameter to be built properly. Next, you will have to dig foot holes in the ground to support the deck and then place proper footings in the dug holes. You will also need enough posts to support the hot tub's full weight and the weight of the potential tub and deck occupants. If you are not comfortable at this phase, you should consult a professional.

If you have successfully accounted for the weight, power and design, you are all set to build a deck for your hot tub. Always keep in mind that the deck can be build on both sides of your home and you could also opt to build an free standing unit elsewhere on your property. Decide on a place that you are comfortable with but also make sure that plants, trees, and utilities do not become obstacles while deck building.

Though hot tubs can be a great addition to your home, they need to be built properly. If your deck is not designed properly and is not sturdy enough, it might collapse without notice or the structure could prove to be a very dangerous liability to your household. So if you do not have extensive deck building experience, make sure to consult a professional deck builder to build your hot tub ready deck.

It will also allow them to enjoy spending time outside, something all children enjoy, as much as they want. Although, may would argue that it would be better to get toys similar to these inside the house. The freedom that playing outside gives to the children will be very hard to match indoors. In addition, getting such large toys inside the house is a challenge in itself, as getting such toys inside the house will severely cramp up the living space. Inspirational Koi Pond Filter Media - How to Pick the Right Kind

Just like filter systems themselves, there are many choices when it comes to the various types of filter media. The most common questions I hear asked are "what type of filter media is best " and "what is the best combination of media to use."

First, all media perform either mechanical or biological filtration - or both. You need both kinds in your Koi pond so what are they. Mechanical filtration is trapping solid wastes and removing them from the water. Biological filtration supports the growth of beneficial bacteria that break down pollutants in the water.

Japanese matting has become one of the most popular and widely used for biological filtering. It is made from thousands of fiber strands formed into a sheet or mat. Do not use this medium for mechanical filtration since it will easily clog and require repeated cleanings that will eventually lead to disintegration. Another good type of biological filter medium is bacballs. They are easy to work with and clean. Again, don't use them in the early stages of the filter system as they too may become clogged and require cleaning often. Bioflow and flocor are plastic pieces that are light weight and easy to clean and good for biological filtering. Aquarock is another good media for biological filters.

If you don't have a vortex chamber as your first stage of filtration, you will want to use brushes in the first stage to trap the large solid waste material. Brushes are easy to work with and clean. You can be sure they will need frequent cleaning depending on the waste load of your Koi pond.

So what is a good setup? Well the answer might be different depending on who you ask but here are some suggestions. If you have a pump-fed multi-chamber system without a vortex you would want to consider having brushes in chamber one, followed by flocor or bioflow in stage two, followed by Japanese matting in stage three. If you have additional chambers consider adding matting, foam or Aquarock.

If you have a gravity-fed system with a vortex chamber, it could use a similar setup except the brushes would not be needed. Alternatively, with a vortex as the first stage, I like to use some form of matting or matting and foam in all the chambers after the vortex. Whatever your setup, do a little homework before you select the best setup for your Koi pond.

Best of Planting Blueberry Bushes As Fruit and Landscaping

Did you know that one of the most versatile plants for your home garden and/or landscaping is a blueberry bush? Sounds crazy I know but let me explain; when you look for garden plants you normally think of tomatoes or other vegetables but a blueberry bush is a perennial instead of an annual which means it will be around year after year.

It will not bear fruit the first 1-3 years and do not become fully productive until about the sixth year but after that the Blueberry bush will produce up to 8 quarts of berries for 15-20 years before it will slows down in production. If you want bigger berries and a higher yield of berries then you should plant more than one bush so that you can cross pollinate. You will still get blueberries if you do not cross pollinate just not as much.

It also makes a great landscaping bush because it requires little space, produces beautiful white flowers in the spring along with the green foliage. To help stimulate the growth of the bush you should remove the blossoms for the first two years. Then in the fall after it produces its fruit the leaves change to a beautiful reddish color plus you do not need to prune them for the first three years.

The soil's ph is something thing that you will have to look into. Blueberry bushes require a low ph or acid soil. You will want to test the soil before you plant and if it is not where it should be then you will want to wait until next year and concentrate on changing the ph this year. Some easy natural ways to change the ph is to add coffee grounds, peat moss, compost and manure to the soil. You will want the soil to rest for about 2-3 months before you retest it to make sure it has worked.

Now to figure out which type to blueberry bush to buy; there are a lot of different varieties of blueberry bushes to choose from just make sure that if you pick a bush that is a hybrid it will need to be cross pollinated with another blueberry bush. This is something that does not need to be done with the older varieties.

There are three main types of blueberry bushes: highbush, rabbiteye and southern highbush. If you live in the north you should only plant the highbush. If you live the south then only plant the rabbiteye and the southern highbush. Blueberry bushes are easy to find in your local garden centers in the spring or you can order them from the internet. They will vary in price from $ 15 - $ 35+ due to the age and size of the plant. So, find a spot, grab a soil tester and get started on enjoying your own homegrown blueberries.

Nice Tips on Choosing Home Deck Design Software

Home deck design software is a new trend in getting the deck of your dreams. Homeowners have tapped into a new era of using their computers to design different parts of their home including the outside landscape and now all of the outside structures. Most deck designer software is intended for professional use but more and more companies are seeing that there is a benefit to creating programs that the average person can follow and understand without the need for a professional designer. The most popular type of design software uses 3D imagery to create a three dimensional view of what the deck is going to look like when completely built for various view points.

There are many different types of deck designing software on the market today. Some are very expensive and intended for someone who is familiar with more complicating schematics. Stick to user friendly software that gives you a good idea of what the project will look like but not necessarily all of the intricate details like which type of lighting, nail or lumber to use. The typical homeowner only wants to be able to change and adjust elements in the process while also still seeing the overall end result of each change or addition. The price of a software package will vary greatly on the amount of options it offers the user.

Most outdoor deck design software is likely going to center around the building of a deck structure and the nearby area. Landscape design software is another option because some will allow you to add structures into the landscape. Before you make your purchase try out any tutorials available to see if the software will give you the end result you are looking for. Many programs start you out with templates that are already set up to fit a typical back yard area. Once you choose a beginning template you can then add and subtract parts in order to create the exact deck that you want. A good price for deck software runs around $ 30 and the higher the price goes, the more functions and options you will have. Do not spend more than $ 100 if you are someone who is not intending to use the software for professional reasons.

Nice The Science of your Backyard

Your backyard is a great place for your child to get outside in play.  In addition to swimming and playing outdoor sports, your child can also use your backyard as a science experiment. If you are interested in helping them achieve this, you may want to familiarize yourself with some popular backyard activities, especially those that have a focus on nature and science.

Exploring your backyard is not only a fun activity, but it is also educational.  There are a large number of living, breathing creatures that can be found outdoors.  All children love exploring nature, but there are some who may enjoy this exploration more than others. Those children are likely to be toddlers or elementary school aged children. Since young children may need your assistance, you will want to pick backyard activities that you will also enjoy.

One of the many ways that you can incorporate science into your backyard is by studying the plants that can be found in your yard. While all backyards are likely to have a number of different plants or flowers, yours may have more. For the best type of environment, you are encouraged to explore areas of your yard that have yet to be mowed.

Your backyard is also likely full of a number of different insects. Like plants and flowers, your child may enjoy examining these bugs. It is not only fun to see what bugs live in your backyard, but it is also exciting to learn about how they survive. There is also a good chance that your children may leave your yard with a new pet.

In addition to the living things that can be found in your backyard, you and your child may also want to examine the weather and the impact it has on the yard and everything inside of if. Backyard conditions change as the weather changes. By examining your backyard after a rainy day, your child may find that many of the plants, flowers, and bugs have either changed or retreated to safer grounds. Examining the effect the weather has on the things in your backyard is not only fun, but educational.

To make the most out of your child's next backyard adventure, you may want to consider purchasing them some science supplies. These supplies may include, but should not be limited to containers, butterfly catching nets, magnifying glasses, picture books, and resource guides. If your child is planning on capturing a few insects, a small cage or breathable container may be just what they need. These supplies, along with others, can be purchased from most retail stores. These stores may include department stores, home improvement stores, and toy stores.

To keep your exploration focused on education, science books and nature resource guides may be a nice addition to your child's science collection. Many books and resource guide have a focus on insects, birds, plants, and flowers.  Many of these resources will provide you with information and pictures. For a large selection of science and nature books, you are encouraged to shop online or visit your local book store.

When examining the plants, bugs, and flowers in your backyard, you and your child may want to document what you see.  This can easily be done with a notebook or a camera. By taking pictures, your child will always be able to remember their exploration adventures.  Those pictures could also be used for other crafts. Scrapbooks and collages are a great way to turn traditional photographs into something much more.

Whether your child plans on exploring your backyard or they do so without intending to, it is likely that they will interested with what they see and learn. Incorporating science into your next backyard adventure is just one of the many things that you and your child can do outdoors; however, it may be the most beneficial.

The Backyard Playground Safety For Your Children

During this age of computers and digital entertainment, it is important that children still get their outdoor time. Playing in the fresh air with friends, inventing creative games and letting off a little steam is the perfect solution for parents during the warm weather of summertime. As with every activity your child participates in, safety should come at the very top of the list of importance. You can do a few things to ensure your child's safety as he or she plays outside on a kids playground. Apart from removing obstacles and otherwise creating a safe place for them to play, you can teach your children important things about playing safe.

Every child should be instructed about the importance of staying off kids playground equipment if it is wet from rain or burning hot from the scorching summer sun. Wet surfaces make running dangerous because it will be slippery. Overly warm equipment could burn your child, especially if they touch metal portions. Among other reasons, this could be a basis for which you might want to select a wooden playground set. Wood may get hot in the searing summer sun, but it will not burn them. When safety is a top priority, this is something to consider.

Advise your children not to play on the kids playground equipment with clothing that has strings on it. Jacket strings, untied shoe laces, even necklaces can get caught in crevices on a playset. In addition to letting them know what they should not wear, instruct your children about the importance of wearing sunscreen. Getting sunburned is an unpleasant experience by itself, but repeated sunburning leads to skin cancer, something that can start in a person's youth.

For added kids playground safety, the equipment itself should be sturdy and constructed correctly. Any protrusions from the ground in your backyard, like tree roots, rocks and other sharp objects, should be removed before installing a backyard playset. Consider the benefits of including a rubber mulch playground surface for added safety if a child should fall. The grass and soil of your backyard may be sufficient in the beginning, but erosion over time will decrease its effectiveness in protecting the safety of your child. Wooden playgrounds are advised over metal or plastic because they last longer, do not reflect heat as harshly and are of a sturdy construction. As always do your research and make sure that the company you chose has the experience and the expertise to help you build a safe playground.

The Best Hammocks & Swings For Your Backyard

If you are an outdoors type of person, you probably love just lounging outside in your backyard. Watching the clouds float by, listening to the sounds of the birds and crickets chirping. One of the best ways to enjoy your backyard is with a hammock or hammock swing.

There are many different types of materials to choose from. There are rope hammocks, which are made from cotton rope or soft polyester rope, as well as, cotton hammocks, fabric hammocks, and nylon hammocks.

There are also many different styles of hammocks to choose from. You have your portable hammocks, which are made out of parachute material, weighing in at only eleven ounces, making them extremely lightweight and easy to pack. Camping hammocks, which are also light weight, yet very durable, and of course your traditional, large hammock that you will be spending many sleepy afternoons on.

One thing you will want to consider when making your hammock purchasing decisions, is, do you have a couple of trees to hang your hammock from? If you do not, no need to put away those dreams of hammock life, simply purchase a hammock stand, and you are all set. Think of all the lazy summer afternoons, swaying in the breeze in your back yard, maybe a small table next to you for a cool drink, in between naps.

If you have a spouse, or children that will be sharing your hammock with you, be sure to keep that in mind when making your purchase. Especially when making your hammock stand purchase. You will find that you can purchase many styles of hammock stands, in many different types of materials. Be aware that most hammock stands will have a weight limit rating posted on the box, or in the description, and you will definitely want to pay close attention to this limit.

Maybe you are not looking for something as large as a hammock, possibly just a hammock swing. A hammock swing is going to have a much smaller footprint, making it perfect for a smaller backyard. However, do not be fooled, you will still be nodding off just as quickly and easily when you are swaying in the breeze on your hammock swing. You will find that, just as with the hammock, if you don't have trees in your backyard, you are still going to be able to enjoy your hammock swing, with the use of a hammock swing stand.

You will want to be sure to take care of your new hammock, or hammock swing. They are not meant for bouncing, or jumping on, and doing so, can result in injury, as well as destroying your hammock. If you take care of your new hammock, it will take care of you, and those lazy afternoons, for years to come.

The Best Ipe Decking - The Best Choice For Wet Surfaces

When deciding on what product to choose for decking around swimming pools, hot tubs and saunas, Ipe decking is a great choice. The advantages of this tropical hardwood are many and for those who only want to make this investment once, Ipe wood is one of the best options out there.

As a wood product subjected to outdoor elements and near constant exposure to water, Ipe (pronounced EE-pay) is one of the most rot resistant woods. It is resistant to mold and insect infestation as well. In tests conducted by the United States Naval Research Laboratory, Ipe wood that had been left in the ground for 15 years was still free from termites and was given the highest rating possible. Even untreated Ipe can be expected to last 40 plus years. With a deck oil applied to the surface of the wood, Ipe decking will last 100 plus years. Now that's a great return on an investment.

For decking in slippery areas, Ipe also soars above the competition. It has been ASTM-D143 tested and Ipe wood exceeds the American with Disabilities Act requirements for Static Coefficient of friction in a wet environment. This is an important consideration when thinking about what decking to use around swimming pools and hot tubs. Children naturally have a tendency to want to run around pools and with decking made from Ipe, it's one more aid in preventing accidents. Another plus that this exotic hardwood provides is no splintering, another important advantage around swimming pools and hot tubs where most people will be barefooted.

Although Ipe is found predominantly in South America, Ipe hardwood is also a responsible environmental choice. Because Ipe can be grown with relative ease in managed forests, it is a renewable resource and encourages responsible forestry practices. This ease of harvest from managed forests means less impact on tropical rainforests. This exotic hardwood has many advantages over Teak and Mahogany and is available at a fraction of the cost.

These trees can grow up to 150 feet in height and can have a trunk diameter of 6 feet. Average height at harvest in a managed forest is 100 feet and a trunk diameter of 2 to 3 feet. This is an incredibly dense wood, which is what makes it such a durable choice for decking. It is so dense; the wood actually sinks in water.

Up until recently, Ipe was impractical due to this density. The wood was very difficult to machine and would quickly blunt even the sharpest blades. Recent advances in technology have made it much easier to work with and carbide blades are now used to avoid the problem with easily blunted blades. Fastener holes must be predrilled, as the wood is nearly impervious to hammers and nails. It does, however rout very nicely.

When the famous boardwalk in Atlantic City required replacing, it was Ipe wood decking that was chosen. The Treasure Island resort in Las Vegas also chose Ipe as the wood of choice for their boardwalk as well. If you are planning an outdoor project, consider using Ipe for a deck that will last a lifetime.

Awesome Get Creative With Landscape Photography

The advent of digital photography means that many people can now be as creative as they like with landscape photography without having to spend a fortune on developing their prints. In fact, with a reasonably priced camera anyone can take marvellous shots of almost anything and make canvas prints for gifts or to decorate their home.

Wildlife photography will take a little more patience; you must seek out or wait for wild animals, and have the knowledge to get just the right lens and lighting for great photos. But printing those shots costs nothing compared to printing out film in a darkroom. Since the cost is so small you can really get out and take lots of shots and this will help you to quickly find out just what works and what does not.

Beautiful landscape photography is easy to do; all you need is an eye for beauty and a camera and maybe a few different lenses if you want to get into taking more professional pictures. But even those little point and click cameras are capable of taking some stunning shots for those who have an eye to see the beauty in nature.

It could be an old tree with twisted branches rising against the backdrop of a soft pink sunset that attracts you. Or black rocks starkly silhouetted on a white beach at dawn. Such things are often taken for granted by many, but once you start to look around you with an eye to taking some great landscape shots youll be amazed at what pops up.

When taking landscape photography, remember to really look at what is included in your viewfinder. It is easy to get so caught up with photographing a stunning sunset that you dont notice those power lines in one corner. But one the photo is printed out there they are, spoiling what would have been a beautiful landscape shot.

The Best How to Buy a Picnic Table and Umbrella

Everyone loves a carefree picnic, the irony is that for your picnic to be fun and carefree you need to be careful about certain things. For instance, you must remember to carry a "good" picnic table and umbrella. So, how does one decide what constitutes a "good"? Well, here are some tips to help you make the right choice:

The first most important attribute of a picnic table is that it should be easy to transport and carry. At the same time it should be sturdy enough to cope up with elements. Collapsible plastic tables are therefore considered ideal for picnics.

The size of the table would depend on the number of people you want to accommodate on the table. If you have large family or social circle, you may invest in a huge table or 2 or 3 small picnic tables.

If however, you intend to place the picnic table in your backyard of lawn, then you may decide to invest in a heavy wooden or metal table, but do remember that they require greater maintenance than a plastic table.

Picnic tables come with and without attached seating. Attached seating is ideal for fixed picnic tables; however, the distance between the table and the chair may not be comfortable for everyone. Movable benches and seats are a good idea if you intend to buy a portable picnic table.

You must also make sure that the picnic table comes with a pre-drilled hole for the umbrella.

As far as the attributes of a good umbrella go, the first most important thing to ensure is that the umbrella should be large enough to provide shade to the entire table. To ensure that the umbrella doesn't fall prey to powerful gusts of wind, make sure that it has in-built air vents. If you intend to carry your umbrella to the beach, look for an umbrella with a pointed end so that it can easily penetrate into sand. While aluminum or hard wood poles have long life spans and are ideal for fixed picnic tables, it would be a god idea to invest in an umbrella with a PVC pole for portable picnic tables.

Finally, make sure that the design of the umbrella goes well with the look of the table.

Beautiful BENEFITS OF A SCREENED IN PORCH - DECK

Although many homeowners look to upgrade their houses with the addition of a deck or home addition, few people think of the possibility of a screened porch. Professional Remodeling Group located in Fairfax, Virginia tells homeowners about the many benefits of having a screened in porch.

Screened porches are built solely for enjoyment. They allow homeowners to enjoy the outdoors while sheltering form harsh elements like the sun on a hot day, rain, and pests. Being outdoors is wonderful, however, insects and bugs can ruin the outdoors. Spending more time outdoors is possible with an enclosed porch.

Although they offer shelter, screened porches still allow users to capture a breeze or entertain regardless of the weather. Entertaining in a screened porch environment is a great experience. Homeowners don't have to worry about creating a mess because this isn't a room but a porch environment. It is also cooler than simply entertaining on an outdoor porch.

Most importantly, screened porches can be built on a budget. For a low investment, homeowners can add an increased value to their home. A porch that is enclosed adds more value when the house is on the market than a porch, which is not enclosed.

Professional Remodeling Group a northern Virginia screened porch contractor mentions some considerations when building a screened porch. To avoid the porch looking like a ghastly addition to your house, be sure to match the trim details of your house including the roof. This means deciding between aluminum or wood-framed porches which will depend on the design of your house. Secondly, to ensure that there is continual air movement through the screened porch, homeowners should consider adding a powerful ceiling fan so that the temperature in the porch area is comfortable even on a warm day with no breeze.

Another consideration by our screened porch contractor is the size of your screened porch. There are many beautiful designs that can add extra and unique living space to your home. To decide on the size of your screened porch, consider the furniture you will be putting in the room, how many people you are planning to gather in the room. Professional Remodeling Group urges homeowners to remember that screened porches can be enclosed later at a minimal cost, and this adds to the future investment.

Screened porches are definitely something to consider as opposed to a regular sunroom or deck as an addition to your home. Not only are they value adding to your home, but they also add value to your life by providing a comfortable shelter and place to pause from your hectic life and enjoy.

Lovely Swimming Pool Salt Systems For Pure Pool Water

Salt systems actually are chlorine systems.

But yo do not have to haul home messy, smelly, and possibly toxic chlorine to dump in your water! Instead, you use common table salt. The salt system uses an electric charge to turn the salt into low levels of chlorine that constantly flow into your swimming pool.

You can realize some of the advantages of a salt system right away.

You do not have to worry about storing dangerous chemicals like solid or liquid chlorine. This is a big plus for everybody, but especially for families with younger kids. But even without young children, any of us who have experienced prying open the lid of a bucket of chlorine, and trying not to breath because of the fumes, can appreciate this advantage!
And I have ruined more than one shirt because of the back splash when adding liquid chlorine to the pool. Say good-bye to bleach spotted clothes and faded swimming suits.
Because the salt level is about equal to human eyes, and because smaller amounts of chlorine are evenly dispensed, people report relief from many phyysical problems associated with traditional chlorine. Red eyes, skin irritation, and damaged hair from highly treated pool water can just be bad memories.

Some of the advantages of this modern type of water treatment will also be realized later.

Because table salt is inexpensive, you will save money in the long run. Instead of spending hundreds of dollars on water treatment chemicals every season, you can buy a big bag of salt! Of course you will have to make the initial investment in a salt water treatment system for your pool. But you will save big on time and money, and probably have many more good water days. If you have ever spent days trying to get rid of a nasty algae bloom which meant more expensive chemicals and trips to the pool store, you will learn to appreciate your new way to get pure sparkling water.

Awesome Led Fire Lights Help Fire Departments Keep Fire Fighters And The Public Safe.

The history of fire vehicles is fascinating, in 1719, Philadelphia took delivery of a hand pumped fire engine. Newsham's of London had made some of the most successful fire engines round about 1730. In fact, the first fire engines used in New York City in 1731 were made by Newsham. It wasn't until 1743 that the first American made fire engine was constructed, and that was by Thomas Lote. There have been horse drawn fire engines and also steam fire engines, of course none of these vehicles had any kind of warning light such as the LED Fire Lights we have today.

The modern LED Fire Lights are very versatile, they are extremely bright and noticeable and can be seen round 360-degrees with no problem at all. All modern LED Fire Lights need low energy to power them and will not significantly drain the battery in the vehicle. Some light units have a switch to enable the light pattern to be changed. The beauty of all LED lights is they can be seen at great distances and in any weather or light conditions. LED light units tend to be fully encapsulated, self-contained units, which are all weatherproof.

Different states have different requirements for any emergency vehicle lighting and any emergency vehicle does not come fitted with any standard lighting. LED Fire Lights are no different so Fire Departments will have to source there own emergency lighting and siren equipment. There are many suppliers of LED Fire Lights, although choosing a supplier shouldn't be difficult this is one situation where recommendations from other Fire Departments would be a pointer in the right direction.

All LED light units today perform several functions; they advise, warn and help maintain road users and pedestrian's safety. LED Fire Lights act as warning that the vehicle is approaching, and that along with the audible siren is a very effective way to protect the public and the fire fighters in the vehicle. The LED Fire Lights really do help maintain safety and are crucial to any fire department. The simple LED Fire Lights are lifesavers as they enable fire trucks to get to the scene of a fire in the quickest possible time.

Therefore, from the very earliest of times we have needed fire engines, many early vehicles had no visible warning signs although they did often have a fire bell. Fire engines today are very specialized vehicles, what none of the fire engines can be without are LED Fire Lights. Although requirements do vary, vehicles will have to have some kind of warning or hazard lighting. Whether it is a single strobe or a bank of lights or light bars, no Fire vehicle will be seen on the street attending emergencies without their LED lighting flashing its warnings.

Awesome Swimming Pools - Never Ending Pools

Does your property sit on a hill where you can look out to the horizon, or maybe your view goes straight out to sea. Wouldn't it be wonderful if your back garden could flow right into the view? A popular new design in pools will bring the ocean to you. Infinity pools are mostly seen on more exclusive properties, but if your budget will allow it you can build a beautiful vanishing pool in your own back yard.

The Infinity pool usually has one or more disappearing edges. This gives the illusion that the pool has no borders, that the pool merges with the horizon or flows out to sea. It will give your property a most spectacular view. The pool system is designed to operate only when there are swimmers present. Basically, the way an Infinity pool works is the water will spill over the edge of the pool into a collection tank that is install underneath the pool and runs the length of the pool. It will then be circulated through a traditional filtration system and returned to the main pool. The Infinity pool does not use a skimmer, the water is sent to the pump through the drain system.

There are some costs associated with an infinity pool that do not occur with most traditional swimming pools. You will have to install the collection tank, more extensive waterproofing will be required, it will have to be fitted with a larger than normal pump and filter, and will need an auto fill sensor on the collection tank. A filling device is needed to compensate for water that is splashed out by bathers or by rain. A sufficient water level must be maintained for the pumps to operate properly. There will also be additional cost due to water loss from evaporation and splash out. Additional heating of replacement water will also add to operation costs.

Infinity pools add a breathtaking view to your property, but due to the way that the pool is designed to operate it is not very practical in Australia. Australians are under very strict water conservation restrictions, and are encouraged to reduce water waste in all aspects of their daily lives. These pool do not have the over hang pavers that are intended to restrict splash out when bathers are present. Evaporation in the Infinity pools is much more difficult on control so topping off has to be done more often. Rainwater collection tanks will provide the water necessary to maintain adequate water levels for proper operation and eliminate the need for mains water.

Other styles of designer pools are becoming more popular all of the time. One alternative to the Infinity pool is a mirror pool. These pools are a bit more expensive and there are fewer builders installing them.

The internet is an invaluable resource of information on the operation of Infinity pools and other available designer pools. As always consult with an approved pool builder for advice on choosing any non-traditional pools. Contact your local water authority for restrictions and requirements for Infinity pools.

Best Theme Container Gardens For the Deck and Patio

Creating your own container garden can be so much fun, especially if you think of using themes. Consider showing off your style with a small kitchen garden, or create an outdoor pot designed to attract hummingbirds or to welcome butterflies. Our beings are drawn to beautiful scents, what about a container giving off wonderful fragrances.

Culinary containers or kitchen gardens are especially handy as a source of herbs, leafy lettuce or parsley, or even edible flowers. You may wish to combine many edibles to create your own miniature garden at the door. Combining edibles with your flowering or ornamental plants can be so attractive - imagine Beefsteak Tomatoes surrounded by basil or oregano. For foliage color, use green and purple leaved basils, leaf lettuce and Swiss chard. Parsley is especially great, goes anywhere, and adds attractive texture and rich green color to any container combination. Nasturtiums are grown for their showy, spurred flowers and trailing ones are sensational in your planters - they are edible and give a finished look to the container.

Herbs that work wonderfully well in culinary containers are chives, lemon balm, rosemary, different sages and oregano. Lemongrass is wonderful in soups and adds a nice vertical accent to any planter or outdoor pot.

And then of course there are those peppers, both colorful and hot. Cherry tomatoes should not be forgotten, they look pretty in your arrangements and the spectacular patio tomatoes are there for the picking. Don't forget arugula and of course golden thyme for another theme.

The best place to use your fragrant plants is in garden pots on your deck or patio. This is where we can enjoy their lovely scents when relaxing in the evening. Mix scented plants with foliage or flowers and see what you can come up with. Some plants, such as heliotrope, can be enjoyed once they begin to bloom and for the rest of the summer. Lilies that have been forced in your pots can be moved to the garden after they bloom. Others such as tuberoses may have to be moved indoors before frost and then brought out again next year. Dahlias and of course geraniums make a great show and a delightful addition to your container gardens.

Hummingbirds will arrive right on your deck or patio if you give them the proper encouragement. Along with your hummingbird feeder, some of the best container plants to attract them are annual sages. They come in so many colors from bright red to shades of mauve and purpose to creamy white and pink. Try out one or more of them in your garden pots. You may also use Nicotiana plant, petunias and dwarf dahlias too.

To keep all of our container plants going all summer, deadhead regularly and of course water and feed on a timely basis. When plants become scrawny or leggy, just cut them back hard in mid-summer and then they will produce more new flowers and foliage within a few weeks. Your containers will be beautiful right into the cool Fall weather.

In summary, create theme container combinations. They can be ones either for the kitchen, to give off wonderful fragrances and of course to attract hummingbirds and butterflies.

The Outdoor Living Areas ? Outdoor TVs

There are many locations where, due to the weather, living outdoors is a distinct possibility. More and more people in these types of locations have areas on their patio, by their pool, in the backyard or somewhere else outside where they can relax and unwind in the open air.

While barbecues have enabled Al Fresco eating for sometime, it is only recently that technology has advanced enough to enable outdoor TV use to be a cost effective reality.

Watching the big sports game, favorite TV show or a late night movie in the fresh air, especially during the warmer months, can be a real pleasure which is why there has been a surge in interest for outdoor TVs.

The Options

There are various options for watching TV in an outdoor environment and they can vary in practicality and cost.

The simplest option, and the most cost effective, is to take an old living room TV and place it outdoors. Ideally, this should be in castors as any device left out overnight, or in a sudden downpour will probably fail, but equally it is not the most practical method – having to wheel a TV back and forth.

To have a permanent outdoor TV installed then the most obvious solution is to purchase a waterproof outdoor TV.  While these are highly expensive, they do allow the TV to be permanently left outdoors. They do need to be secure though as they make a tempting target for thieves and as they are highly expensive – a replacement could be crippling.

The third option for outdoor TV use is to use a standard LCD device but to enable it to be a permanent fixture it can be housed in an outdoor LCD enclosure. Outdoor LCD enclosures are not only waterproof, preventing the housed TV from becoming damaged from the rain, but they can also be securely mounted and offer a vandal proof steel enclosure to deter acts of tampering.

The greatest advantage of an outdoor TV enclosure, however, is the fact that they cost only a fraction of the price of specific outdoor LCD systems. Even with the price of the enclosed TV taken into account (that could even be an old indoor family TV) the combination of LCD enclosure and TV is still a fraction of the cost of a specific outdoor screen.

Lovely Color Your Kitchen

Too often people nervously approach the edge of their comfort zone when it comes to adding color in the kitchen and then quickly head back to the safety of blah. There is no reason to treat this area any differently than the rest of your home. If you enjoy color or just saturated hues, then consider adding a jolt of color or go so far as to be bold and paint your cabinets or walls with a dramatic shade or perhaps even the counter tops become a focal area of intense color.

The key is balance and a little bit of guts. Any time you are considering working with bold colors, you need to think of balancing the intensity with more subtle anchoring shades somewhere in the design. Perhaps it is a dark wood floor to offset bold coloring on the walls or a light, soft hue in a floor tile that works well with darker shades of the cabinetry.

One kitchen that comes to mind all began with the client wanting a bold shade of aquamarine somewhere in the space. The feel of such a strong color needed to work with the rest of the home so a black glaze was used to soften the intensity. But the real trick was staining the rest of the cabinetry a rich walnut brown. This solid neutral wood tone helps make the island color stand proud but keeps it from overwhelming everything else in the room.

For 2009, yellow is emerging as a comfort color evoking old fashioned optimism and vitality. Expect to see all shades of yellow on walls, accents and appliances as well. Lavender purples are also making a strong design statement in small pops and even being used on the walls. Blues are still popular but are softening from the bolder versions of last year to more subtle shades mixing with some of the violets to appear softer. We are seeing blues, blue/grays, and green/grays on cabinetry, walls, and even counter tops.

Gray and gray/browns are becoming the standard neutral all over the home. Many more flooring options are coming in shades of gray from weathered gray wood flooring to gray tile and even natural stone heavier on the gray tones as opposed to the more common warm tan shades. All sorts of marble are showing up as counter tops and flooring in the kitchen and even the bath. Everything from classic carrerra marble to stunning calcutta gold keep going strong and are appealing to homeowners who are choosing either modern or traditional style but prefer a soothing muted palette.

And of course we love our browns! A rich saturated brown with more chocolate than cappuccino is being found all over the house and yes, even on the kitchen walls! Say you have existing yet bland cabinetry, a rich nutmeg or espresso can bring about an element of drama and high contrast. Just be sure to tie it in with coordinating tones in the counter tops or backsplash.

And don't forget the ceilings! Paint your ceilings a complementary shade to the walls or just a lighter shade of same color. The affect is instant and impressive and can give you just enough of a face lift to make it all seem fresh and new.

Ok, so what is some of our tried and true favorites for 2009? Benjamin Moore's "Branchport Brown", "Lightening Bug" "Greenbriar Beige" "Davenport Gray" "Beach Glass" and Pratt and Lambert's "Abstract Blue" and "Sea Oat".

About Seven Steps To Choosing The Right Garden Pond Spot

Making the decision to put in a garden pond is the first of many decisions that you will be faced with, when it comes to designing and implementing one of these beauty home accessories.

To begin with almost any yard can house some type of garden pond. There is nothing to say that it has to be big and elaborate in order to fully enjoy all the benefits they have to offer.

There are some preliminary steps to take before actually starting the construction of your pond.

== > Step one
You need to do a full walk through of your backyard and determine all of the viable places from a ground point of view that would work for your pond. If you are going to be doing it yourself remember that you will have some digging to do, and you are not likely to have the right equipment for breaking through ground that is excessively rocky.

== > Step two
You will probably discover at least two or three places that have the appropriate grounds. The next thing you now have to consider is what size of garden pond are you planning on? Then determine which of the locations you have chosen would best meet this need.

== > Step three
Now you have to consider the focal point of your backyard. With your choices of space, is the garden pond going to fit in nicely with the rest of the garden architecture? Even if you do not have your landscaping in place yet, think about the future. Once your garden pond is in you don't even want to have to consider moving it.

== > Step four
Consider the surrounding of the future pond area. If you have large trees you don't want to be running into root problems in a few years, just when your garden pond has become so beautifully established. Then also there is the potential problem of your garden pond becoming laden with fallen leaves and twigs from trees too close to it.

== > Step five
Review the high ground around the pond area. You don't want to have to be dealing with run off from these areas contaminating your pond.

Step six
You want to be sure that there is going to be easy access to your electrical source. You will need this for your pump and filtration system, and perhaps some of the other garden pond accessories that demand power.

== > Step seven
Finally consider how close you want your garden pond to your house. If you have found a viable area that is close to the house, then you want to keep in mind if you do not have a patio now, that you may want to put one in, in the future. Therefore you need to plan ahead for this. The advantage though to having it close to the house is that if you use pond lighting you can enjoy seeing this from inside the house. Also with an open window and provided you are using a fountain or waterfall, you can enjoy the sound of the running water.

These are a few important considerations to give some serious thought to when in the initial planning stages for your garden pond.

Inspirational Designing A Comfortable And Relaxing Backyard

No matter what size your yard is, you can find a way to make it a space that you love to spend time in. If you have a large amount of space available, you can divide it into sections and highlight different aspects.

However, if it airs on the small side, you can find ways to make it seem bigger. If you live in a secluded area with beautiful vistas, and you do not have neighbors living behind you, installing a view fence is a great idea.

It will open up your yard space and give you lots of beautiful things to look at when you are enjoying your time outside. Another great way to open up the space is to keep the majority of your furnishing items closer to your home.

In other words, any lawn chairs or seating available would be best place on the patio or deck. The more clutter you keep out of the open area, the bigger it will seem.

Your backyard should reflect your style, hobbies, and tastes. If you are a master in the kitchen, design an outdoor cooking set up complete with a barbeque.

If at all possible, have the grill built into its own unit where you have plenty of counter space available for cutting and serving. You could also complement your cooking space by setting up an eating area.

Find tables and chairs that are comfortable; if you do not have a great amount of shade or trees, choose tables with coverings or umbrellas. Individuals that live in a cooler climate may want to make a few additives their yard space.

If you are hoping to be able to entertain during the cooler months, you can make use of a fire pit. There are quite a few different options when it comes to this item.

First, you will have to choose whether you would like a gas-powered or wood burning pit. Gas powered fire pits are easier to clean and take care of, but are a little bit pricier and take more time to install, initially.

You will need a gas line that runs directly to the pit. Wood burning pits are another option; they do not burn as clean and make more of a mess, but they will cost less money.

It is also important to decide whether or not you wish to have an upright, stand alone pit or if you would rather dig one into the ground. If you hire a landscaper or designer, they will be able to help you decide which option is best for you.

An item you may also want to consider if you reside in a chillier climate is an outdoor heater. You may want to refrain from installing the larger, gas powered units.

These will take up quite a large amount of your renovation budget, are heavy and cumbersome, and are expensive to upkeep. Instead, try a smaller, electric infrared heater.

These will be easy to mount, place, and move, but will offer enough heat to warm a large space. They are weather resistant and small.

You can really create a warm and cozy set up by placing outdoor furniture on your deck and then mounting a heater nearby. Keep a box of blankets, mittens, and hats right inside the door to the patio, so that guests can make use of them in the chilly weather.

Another important part of the decorating of your yard is landscaping. This is one aspect that must be tailored to the state or climate in which you live, as well as your personal tastes.

If grass is very important to you, make sure you live in an environment where the weather can sustain it. If you live in the desert or somewhere that has climbing temperatures, it will cost you a great deal of money and effort to keep the grass green and lush.

Make sure that the plants and flora that you choose coincide with the rest of the design of your backyard. It is best to choose ones that do not shed too many blossoms or leaves, because they will be a hassle to clean up after.

The options are endless when it comes to how you wish to stylize your space. If you wish, you can enlist help from of a professional; however, you can also create a relaxing yard by doing it yourself!

Best Kitchen Remodeling

While you want to enjoy your kitchen and design it the way you like, you also need to consider what potential buyers would like in case you sell your home down the road. A kitchen that was designed even just a decade ago can look dated, and you may want to decide on remodeling your kitchen.

An important part of remodeling your kitchen is to find current trends that you are fond of. What had been popular decades before may not be what is popular now, so keeping up with 21st century kitchen trends for your remodel is a good idea.

When looking at trends make certain to watch for things that have remained in style or have changed very little. For example natural stone counter tops, such as granite, limestone and marble, are still the most popular material for counter tops. But adding a modern twist, like using different materials for specific work areas, keep your kitchen looking up to date and in style.

Less and less people have the need to prepare foods from scratch, so another trend of modern kitchens is to add more storage space. Work stations are now expected, whether that be full-size pantries, multi-level islands to work on, or cabinet pull outs.

The kitchen is now used for the entire family, so having a more open kitchen design for more space for family is also a current kitchen trend. Today's kitchen designs are more open as far as space planning, since smaller kitchens were usually designed for a single person.

The trend toward professional grade appliances has continued. Keep a look out for kitchen ranges, built in refrigerators, and ovens with convection microwave and warming drawer options. Dishwashers that look like part of the cabinetry is more popular now than the huge face of stainless steel.

With so many different and unique styles to choose from, a modern trend has been to be more specific in kitchen design. For example having your kitchen designed in the famour country style is not enough. You can choose to have it designed in French country or the Tuscan country style.

There are a dizzying array of kitchen design ideas to consider, so take your time and research the current trends. By doing so you will be able to keep your kitchen looking attractive, especially to potential buyers if you end up selling your home later on. If you feel overwhelmed by this, you are not alone, that is why most people go out and hire a trusted company that will help them install all of the fixtures and elements that they've picked out.

Adorable A New Deck Can Be a Costly Proposition

There are some things that simply go together. Peanut butter and jelly is one thing that comes to mind. The beach and suntan lotion is another. And what do you drink when you're at a baseball game (if you're of age, of course)? A beer! So when you think about firing up the old grill to sear some meat, fish, or veggies, it's no surprise that many people think about their deck. Unless you have a luxury house plan with a massive patio, a deck is probably the most likely place that you'll put your grill. That is assuming, of course, that you have a deck. Some homes and condos aren't fortunate enough to have the space. And some homes have decks that are outdated, rotting away, or just plain ugly. In order to be proud of their grilling area, theses homes should probably invest in a new deck. But who can afford one?

With the price that you have to pay to contract with someone to build you a new deck, you might decide that your old one really isn't that bad. When many people get that first quote and see a sometimes five figure price, they get a bit of sticker shock. How can a couple planks of wood and some screws be that expensive? The next thought might be to go the route of Spanish mission houseplans and simply open up their house to the outdoors, with no deck at all. Of course, since they live in the Midwest where there's snow for half of the year, that idea is quickly scratched. The next thoughts turn to how to actually pay for the deck they know they need.

While some are fortunate enough to have a lot of money lying around in savings, they might be able to pay cash straight up for the deck. While this probably isn't the norm, there are some very good savers out there that plan their large purchases five years down the road. In fact, they might have been saving longer than that, maybe even when they were in their old house plans ranch walkout basement that didn't need a deck. Whatever the case, if you're like most people you'll need to take out a loan or get a home equity line of credit. If you go this route, however, you'll be paying for many years down the road. Of course, that's how long you'll be enjoying your deck!

Amazing Adding an Elegant Vinyl Pergola to Your Yard

That's why modern, vinyl pergolas are stealing the show as far as homeowners are concerned and have become extremely popular. These kits are made with the finest vinyl extrusion and some are guaranteed for life against yellowing, cracking, chalking, and other manufacturing defects. These units are designed to be easy to build and affordable, in addition to being great to look at and a positive addition to any yard. Never has building a pergola been so easy or so gratifying.

Vinyl pergolas can either be attached to existing decks or built freestanding depending on the way you want to use them. Many of them are made based on pergola designs that have been classic for centuries, designs which have graced lavish mansions with their style and beauty. They are often built with 2x6 rafters and 2x8 beams to give them the luxurious look of real-wood pergolas and a balance of elements. During the Italian Renaissance pergolas were found in the gardens of most homes, either to cover a walkway or as a grape arbor. People are building them today in order to add airy elegance to their yards and to make outdoor living just that much more enjoyable.

Use a vinyl pergola as a cover for your deck and hot tub or as an arbor to accentuate the walkway going up to your front door. Vinyl pergolas are unmatched when it comes to being maintenance-free. They are also extremely durable with some of the newer models being made with solid rafters and one-piece construction which doesn't require any separate end caps. . They are built to be moisture-resistant as well as to resist insect damage. In other words, these pergolas are designed to last for as long as you want them to without causing you any extra hassle.

By doing a search online, you'll find pages of listings for companies that sell vinyl pergolas. Adorable Understanding the Merits of Ordering a Patio Awning for Your Abode?

Deck awnings are a great way to take back your backyard from the oppressive heat and glare of the sun. With temperatures as much as 20 degrees cooler under an awning, they also serve to protect you, your family, friends and pets from potentially harmful ultraviolet rays.

With unsurpassed sun shading capabilities, deck awnings and patios also serve the dual purpose of shielding you from unexpected rain, ensuring that your outdoor activities and fun are uninterrupted by an unanticipated spring shower. The superior coverage provided by deck awnings eliminates the problems of wet chair seats and annoying drips that other alternatives, like patio umbrellas, may suffer from.

Styles: A typical awning for a deck will mount on the side of your house and extend over the deck. They may or may not have vertical supports. These are permanent fixtures, and while they can be an attractive addition to any home not everyone wants their awning to be on display year round. Deck awnings also come in retractable models, that allow the sunshade portion to easily retract into it's mount at any time. Retractable awnings come in both manual and motorized versions. For people whose deck sits away from their house, there are also freestanding awnings that can be adapted to a variety of circumstances and work quite well.

Materials: Deck awnings come in a wide range of colors, patterns, materials and sizes. They generally are between 7 and 20 feet wide. The two most common materials for an awning are fabric and metal.

*
Fabrics can be canvas, woven acrylic, or laminated. Note that if you do decide to get a fabric awning, be sure to check that the material is rated to block all or most of the sun's UV rays.
*
The most common metal for an awning is aluminum, with the best quality kind being rust proof and never needing to be painted. Deck awnings may also come in vinyl and other materials.

A good awning manufacturer will offer at least a dozen different colors and patterns for your to choose from, with most of them also giving you a choice on the style of valance (material that hangs down around the edges.)

Installation: Deck awnings are designed to simply attach to the siding of your home, whether it is brick, wood, stucco, aluminum siding, masonry or vinyl. Almost all of them are considered to be self-installation (meaning you can easily do it yourself) with complete, easy-to-read instructions for installation. If you're not very experienced with home-improvement type tasks, this is where it can be beneficial to purchase your awning from an established, reputable company.

Most bigger awning dealerships will include a how-to DVD with video instructions to help simplify the process, and if that doesn't work they provide a toll-free number to give you tips and advice. If all else fails, the company should be able to help locate a handyman or independent contractor near you to get everything squared away. On a side note, electric powered motorized awnings do not require an electrician or any special installation, simply a nearby standard outdoor outlet.

Cost: It is worth it to invest in a good quality awning that will withstand the elements and excessive weathering. You don't want the beautiful bright colors of your brand new awning to fade after only a few weeks in the bright sun, or to bleed the first time they're exposed to rain or moisture. Steady winds can also quickly tatter a poorly made awning and reduce its valances to unsightly shreds.

In addition to being a source of comfort and beauty, an attractive, high quality awning will also add value to your home. This says nothing for the energy it will end up saving you and the decrease it will make in your energy costs. The American Society of Heating and Air Conditioning Engineers conducted a study that determined that around 20% of the load on an air conditioner is caused by solar radiation through glass, such as sliding doors and windows. Outdoor shading devices, such as deck awnings, block the solar rays from the glass altogether and substantially increase energy savings. A fabric awning can reduce heat gain by as much as 50 - 60%. That's enormous!

Nice How to Build a Brick Outdoor Fireplace

Building a brick outdoor fireplace is a huge undertaking, but well worth it. A brick fireplace will make any yard pop. It adds curb appeal and can increase the value of your home. So although building it is a pretty involved project it's one that pays for itself in the long run. Assuming you have some basic masonry know how here's how to build a brick outdoor fireplace.

The first thing you need is a piece of paper. You'll need the dimensions for your new outdoor fireplace so you can order the brick. Once you've got it sketched out call up your local building center and they'll be able to tell you how many bricks you need.

Pick a spot in your backyard where there isn't a chance of a stray spark starting a fire - avoid placing under trees, awnings and the like.

Found just the right spot? Great! Grab your shovel and get ready to dig.

You'll need to remove all the grass from the base of your outdoor fireplace.

Once you've removed the grass you need to compact the loose layer of soil. You can either use a hand compactor or rent a powered one for a few dollars a day.

So you're sitting there looking at a big ugly barren spot in the yard by this point. Don't get discouraged!

Have the bricks delivered as close to your work site as possible. Pushing carts full of bricks around all day isn't going to get the fireplace built any faster.

Before you start throwing bricks on the ground make sure you're set with a masonry saw, a trowel and mortar.

Lay a bottom layer of bricks on top of the compacted soil. Be sure to use the trowel and mortar in between each brick. This will give you a nice sturdy starting point for the rest of the brick fireplace.

Let the mortar cure overnight

Start stacking bricks along the edge of the base. What you're shooting for here is a layer 4 bricks high. Be sure to cut/stagger the bricks from row to row always applying a thin layer of mortar between rows.

By now it should start looking like an outdoor brick fireplace.

Keeping laying, staggering, and mortaring those bricks along the sides and back of the fireplace.

Pretty soon you'll have 3 walls about 3 and a half feet high. It's time to build the roof.
Cut a piece of sheet metal sized to the fireplace walls. Cut a small notch slightly larger than 1 brick in the back of the sheet metal.

Place the metal across the 3 walls of your fireplace with the notch facing the back.

Put down another layer of bricks across the top of the sheet metal without covering the notch.

The chimney is the trickiest part.

You'll need to cut the bricks to size to stack them around the notch.

The chimney doesn't need to be that high, just tall enough to let the whole fireplace draft properly.

That does it! It took some time and backbreaking effort but you can now brag to the neighbors that you know how to build a brick outdoor fireplace.
